FASHION GIANTS: ALESSANDRO MICHELE

Welcome to the first part of our new 'Fashion Giants' series that will feature articles about people who have somehow contributed to the development of the fashion industry. The first article was dedicated to a man who gained a position in the fashion world and his name should not be unfamiliar to you: Alessandro Michele.

Alessandro Michele is an italian fashion designer, which became a creative director of house Gucci on January, 2015. "It started when Marco Bizzarri and Francois-Henri Pinault asked me if I was able to prepare a show during the week. I said yes. Within five days, together with the team, I prepared my first independent men's show,” says Alessandro about his beginnings in Gucci's house. It has been a few years since then, and we can see how the brand is always very popular and definitely doesn't fall into the background.

It is known that Alessandro is a passionate collector of old objects, and he speaks of his passion as a rescue mission. In his collections, it blends into a traditional X modern, and vibrantly shade of all sorts of colors reminiscent of the flea market. We can found on his models special frills, sequins, embroidered details... just everything you can imagine. He create his own handbags with a touch of flamboyance and can't fail to notice that in some details it returns back to the 60s and 70s - instead of the ordinary, it uses a bamboo handle that underscores the whole unique design. In his latest collection of Gucci Resort 2018, we were able to see Renaissance-inspired dresses, quilted coats, golden headbands reminiscent of Roman Emperors, or glittering socks and pantyhoses with the GG logo embossed.

V jeho nejnovější kolekci Gucci Resort 2018 jsme měli možnost vidět šaty inspirované renesančním stylem, prošívané kabáty, zlaté čelenky připomínající období římských císařů, či třpytivé ponožky a punčocháče s vyrytým logem GG.

Alessandro is known for his clothes, trying to combine street style and modern life with elegance, as seen in many of his ad campaigns and collections (such as the Pre-Fall 2017 campaign). He has given the brand Gucci an entirely new dimension of innovation and we definitely enjoy it! Keep it up, Alessandro.

Fashion is not about products. Fashion is about an amazing idea that you tried and you either fall in love with the idea and you can’t resist to buy something. But you are buying the idea, you are not buying the object.” - Alessandro Michele
